At my church we always get given a posy of spring flowers to give to give to our mothers on Mothering Sunday. It is one of my favourite traditions and I am always the first one up to get one for my mum. For this years Mothering Sunday gift I thought I would go back to the tradition of giving flowers and make a posy of paper flowers.
Our flowers will be made out of tissue paper, so they have the added bonus of lasting for a long time. I actually have in my memory box for my Dad a set of flowers I made for him for Father’s Day when I was in year 6 some 20 years ago! So I mean they last for a long time.
Make sure you follow our Arts and Crafts board on Pinterest for more ideas. Don’t forget to save the pin for later.
To make this posy of paper flowers you will need:
- Tissue paper squares
- Scissors
- Pipe cleaners
- Stapler
- Ribbon
Stack about 6-8 square pieces of tissue paper on top of each other neatly.

Accordion fold them.

Wrap a pipe cleaner around the middle of it and twist to secure them, or use a stapler.
On either end cut the edges into a shape i.e. a triangle, semi circle or even make straight cuts.

Then unfold each of the layers one by one to create the flower.
When your little one has finished their posy you can tie a ribbon around them to keep them all together.
EC found this an easy craft to do and made flower after flower. YC found the first part tricky, but she could do the last steps. We ended up with a really pretty and unique posy of flowers.
I know I have put these as a Mothering Sunday craft, but they may also make a nice present for anyone that maybe in hospital that can’t have real flowers.
