Nuna VIAA cabn Review: The Ultimate Travel Buggy?

Travelling with small children is not what you’d call a relaxing experience. There’s the luggage, the snacks, the passports you’ve checked 47 times, and at least one child announcing they need the loo just as you reach the front of security. Add a bulky pushchair into the mix and the journey can start to feel like a military operation before you’ve even left the terminal.

Enter the Nuna VIAA™ cabn, Nuna’s first-ever cabin stroller, and quite possibly our new favourite piece of family travel kit.

We’ve put it through its paces and, spoiler alert, it’s pretty great. Lightweight, beautifully designed and genuinely easy to fold, this is a travel buggy that manages to feel compact without feeling compromised.

The headline feature of the VIAA cabn is, unsurprisingly, its size.

At just 7.4kg, it folds down in seconds into a compact package that meets IATA cabin standards, with the armbar removed, so it can be stored in an aircraft overhead locker rather than waved goodbye to at the gate.

Anyone who has ever stood beside a baggage carousel praying their buggy has made it to the same country will appreciate the appeal.

It’s worth adding one important caveat here. Cabin baggage allowances vary between airlines, so always check the dimensions and weight permitted by your particular carrier before travelling. Nuna advises the same.

Also, to make things even easier, a carry bag is included too, so you can pack away and keep your hands free while navigating the airport.

The Fold Gets A Big Tick From Us

A travel pushchair can be feather-light and tiny when folded, but if collapsing it requires three hands, and seven YouTube tutorials, we’re not interested.

Thankfully, the VIAA cabn is refreshingly straightforward.

It folds quickly and compactly, which isn’t just useful when you’re flying. It makes it a brilliant everyday option for anyone short on storage space or car boot room too. Nuna has clearly designed this for the whole journey, rather than simply creating something small enough to take onto an aeroplane.

What we love about this stroller is that the VIAA cabn feels like a proper pushchair that happens to fold exceptionally small, rather than a travel buggy you tolerate for a week because it fits in your luggage.

It Doesn’t Feel Like A Flimsy Travel Buggy

This is probably what impressed us most. There can be a trade-off with ultra-compact strollers. You gain portability but lose some of the substance and practicality of the pushchair you use at home.

The VIAA cabn feels reassuringly considered. It still has that polished, premium Nuna feel, rather than seeming like the buggy you reluctantly swap into because your enormous travel system isn’t making it onto the plane.

The seat can be used from birth right through to 22kg, giving it plenty of longevity.

There’s also an extendable, water-repellent UPF 50+ canopy, providing welcome protection whether you’re heading for a sunny European city break or simply attempting the British school run in December.

That Basket!

Now, this is where Nuna has been particularly clever.

Travel buggies aren’t exactly famous for their generous storage, but the VIAA cabn has an extra-roomy basket capable of holding up to 10kg, and we’re here for it.

That is a very welcome detail when you’re travelling with children because, as every parent knows, leaving the house with a baby apparently requires roughly the same amount of equipment as a six-month Himalayan expedition.

Changing bag, bottles, snacks, spare clothes, toys, muslins, airport purchases you absolutely didn’t need… in they go.

It’s details like this that make the VIAA cabn feel genuinely usable beyond the airport. You’re not sacrificing all the practical bits of a full-sized pushchair simply to get something that folds small.

Clever Details For Travelling Families

There are some thoughtful little touches here too.

A dedicated tracking-device pocket gives you somewhere discreet to pop your chosen tracker, so you can keep tabs on the pushchair during your travels.

Parents using Nuna’s PIPA series infant car seats can also click them directly onto the stroller without adapters, creating a neat little travel system.

That ability to move a sleeping baby from car seat to pushchair without rummaging around for the correct adapters at the bottom of a suitcase is the kind of detail you don’t fully appreciate until you’re doing it.

What Is The Nuna VIAA cabn Like To Push?

For such a compact stroller, the VIAA cabn feels impressively capable.

It’s light and nimble to manoeuvre, which is exactly what you want when weaving through airport terminals, train stations, cafés and busy city streets. Because the whole thing is so lightweight, negotiating steps, kerbs or getting it in and out of the car doesn’t feel like a workout either.

This isn’t trying to replace a giant all-terrain pushchair for muddy country walks. That’s not its job. But for holidays, airports, city breaks, public transport and everyday running around, it hits a very appealing sweet spot between portability and a proper pushchair.

That’s really where we think the VIAA cabn earns its stripes. It’s lightweight without feeling flimsy, compact without stripping away all the useful features, and easy enough to fold that you can realistically manage it while travelling with a small child and all the paraphernalia that comes with them.

And It Looks Good

Well, obviously. It’s Nuna.

The VIAA cabn has the clean, understated styling you’d expect from the brand, and nothing about it screams “emergency holiday buggy”.

At £400, it’s firmly in premium pushchair territory, but we think the price makes more sense if you consider the VIAA cabn as more than something you’ll drag out for your annual holiday.

If you travel regularly, use public transport, have limited boot space or simply want a lightweight everyday stroller that doesn’t feel like a compromise, there’s a lot to love here.

And the fact that you can stroll through the airport, fold it down and potentially pop it into the overhead locker rather than surrendering it at the gate?

That alone might be worth its weight in excess baggage fees.
