Well & Truly Nourished: Honouring Motherhood Through Nutrition & Healing

  • May 29, 2025

Well & Truly Nourished grew from Kelly Wright’s deeply personal journey into motherhood – shaped by health challenges, pregnancy loss and the emotional intensity of postpartum. Through these experiences, she came to understand that true healing begins with honouring the root causes of imbalance and embracing the wisdom of real, whole foods. After studying holistic nutrition and applying this knowledge within her own growing family, Kelly witnessed firsthand the transformative power of nourishment. Today, she supports other women through pregnancy, postpartum and early motherhood with gentle, practical guidance rooted in empowerment and trust in the body’s natural rhythms. Here, Kelly talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the passion behind Well & Truly Nourished and her hopes and dreams for the future.

The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?

My journey into holistic nutrition was deeply personal. I have always been inspired by the power of real, quality, wholefoods to nourish and support overall well-being, but it wasn’t until I faced my own health struggles – gut issues, poor health and pregnancy loss – that I truly understood the importance of addressing the root cause rather than just managing symptoms. Frustrated by conventional methods that only offered temporary fixes, I became curious about the role of nutrition in true healing, and that curiosity soon grew into a passion.

After changing my diet and lifestyle, I experienced a wonderful pregnancy journey with our daughter. I felt strong, energised and avoided many common pregnancy symptoms. However, after her birth, I began to notice feelings of depletion, and signs of postpartum depression started to creep in. At the time, I struggled to find reliable guidance on nutrition for new mothers, and I just accepted my postpartum journey for what it was, even though it was difficult.

Deep down, I always knew that nutrition was my calling. A couple of years later, I pursued formal education in health science, beginning my studies at the Naturopathic College of New Zealand. When an unexpected change in the program forced me to rethink my path, I searched for other options, finding the Holistic Performance Institute, where I became a certified Holistic Nutrition Coach. Wanting to specialise further, I continued my education with Oh Baby School of Holistic Nutrition, focusing on pregnancy, postpartum and baby nutrition as a Certified Nutrition Consultant. I was able to put the knowledge I gained from my studies with Oh Baby to immediate use during my second pregnancy, and I began planning for my own postpartum and recovery. The difference was profound, and my second postpartum journey felt empowering, both physically and emotionally.

My personal experiences have inspired me to help other mothers navigate the challenges of pregnancy and postpartum with confidence. I offer one-on-one nutrition consulting that emphasises an evidence-based, whole-food, holistic approach. My goal is to empower mothers to feel their best during this transformative time in their lives and provide their babies with the best possible start.

Holistic nutrition is now woven into every aspect of my life. I love creating nourishing meals for my family, baking wholesome treats for our energetic seven-year-old daughter, Isla, and preparing nutrient-dense foods for our 12-month-old son, Quinn, to give him the best possible start in life.

The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?

After completing my studies with Oh Baby, I decided to just go for it and began setting up my consultancy business. I’m currently growing my business, focusing on branding, developing my website and building a social media presence from the ground up – no small feat! Over the past few months, I’ve gained valuable experience in social media strategy and content creation, and I’m loving the journey. I’ve even dabbled in food photography, though my husband Chris shines in that area!

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

My biggest breakthrough has been pushing through my self-doubt and uncertainty, allowing myself to step into something completely new. All too often, we stay where it’s comfortable and safe, even if that hinders our growth and development as a person. Putting myself out there has been transformative; my only regret is not doing it sooner.

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

It’s no easy task! I have always wanted to be there for my children to watch them grow and learn. I’ve structured my work schedule around our family’s needs while Quinn is little. My husband and I make a great team, and his unwavering support has been incredible since I began my professional nutrition journey. By making the most of Quinn’s daytime naps and dedicating focused time in the evenings after the kids are asleep, I’ve found a way to juggle work, study and family life. As my business grows, I plan to gradually transition Quinn into nursery, giving him the chance to socialise with other little ones his age.

Prioritising self-care as a family is also key to maintaining balance. For us, this means being intentional about nutrition, cooking nourishing meals from scratch, staying active (even if this is just walking to school together), reasonable bedtimes and connecting through family mealtimes. It’s not always easy, but with intention and teamwork, we create a rhythm that works for us.
