Personalised Homeopathic Care for Women, Families & Those Seeking a Gentler Path to Lasting Wellbeing

Christine Sheppard’s approach to homeopathy is grounded in something that has been part of her character since childhood: a quiet instinct to listen, support and help others through difficult times. Through The Holistic Homeopath, she has turned that instinct into a practice centred on compassion, individual attention and creating a space where people feel genuinely heard. She is passionate about looking beyond a person’s symptoms to understand their wider story, while offering a calm and supportive presence along the way. Here, she talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the inspiration behind her work, the challenges she has overcome along the way, the pros and cons of running her own business, and her hopes and dreams for the future.

The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?

From an early age, I learned the value of being steady, responsible and quietly supportive in the face of difficulty. Those early experiences shaped not only who I am as a person, but also the work I feel called to do.

I have always been someone who cares deeply for others and who finds meaning in helping people feel less alone when life becomes overwhelming. My practice grew from this instinct – a desire to offer warmth, understanding and a sense of being held during times of strain, illness or emotional burden.

I bring an open, approachable and compassionate presence to my work. I believe that healing begins when a person feels truly heard and supported, and I aim to create a space where that can happen naturally and without pressure.

For me, this work is not simply a profession. It is a way of turning life experience into something useful, steady and kind for others.

The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?

I didn’t begin with a grand plan to start a practice. It began much more simply, from a long-standing instinct to help and to be there for others when life felt difficult or overwhelming.

Over time, I realised that this quiet, steady way of supporting people was not just part of my personality – it was something I wanted to develop into my life’s work. My interest in homeopathy grew from this place: a wish to understand people deeply and to offer a form of care that is gentle, thoughtful and truly individual.

What started as curiosity and study gradually became something more meaningful. As I learned, I found that the principles of homeopathy resonated strongly with my own experience of listening, caring and supporting others through challenging times.

From there, setting up my practice felt like a natural step rather than a deliberate decision – an extension of who I already was and how I had always related to people.

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

The biggest breakthrough for me in my business was recognising that the way I naturally support and care for people is not something small or incidental – it is the very heart of my work.

For a long time, I simply did what came naturally: listening, being steady and helping others through difficult times. The turning point came when I realised this wasn’t “just who I am”, but something of real value that I could consciously offer through my practice.

That shift – from quietly helping to confidently recognising my role – changed everything. It allowed me to step into my work with greater clarity, purpose and trust in what I bring to the people I support.

Yin and yang: How do you balance work and family?

I have clear boundaries between work and family. I have definite start and finish times that I honour. When work time ends, I allow myself a few minutes of quiet before re-entering family space, which allows me to change roles consciously.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Probably one of the biggest challenges has been learning to explain homeopathy clearly without overcomplicating it. Being able to translate what I do into simple, grounded language is a core business skill, not simply a communication bonus.

I have also learned the importance of boundaries around time and emotional load. Learning to hold space without absorbing everything is essential for sustainability.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

Running a homeopathic practice is deeply rewarding. I have the opportunity to work with the whole person and their individual story – not just their symptoms. Homeopathy values the individual.

There are many positives: deep, meaningful work and strong client relationships. Clients often feel heard for the first time. When clients experience positive changes, word-of-mouth referrals feel natural and authentic.

I get to set my own pace, hours and environment, while enjoying good work-family balance

I also value the lifelong learning that comes with the practice. Materia medica and case analysis never get dull, and the intellectual challenge keeps the work engaging.

Of course, there are challenges too. Explaining what I do clearly can sometimes be difficult, and referral-based growth takes patience.

Complex cases can carry an emotional load, while the work itself can be time-intensive.

Running a business also requires knowledge and expertise beyond the practice itself, and I continue to learn and grow as the business evolves.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

My hope is to continue to truly see the person behind the symptoms and to help families break repeating health patterns. I would like to offer a gentler path to healing – one that works with the body rather than against it.

I want to restore a sense of hope in people who feel they have tried everything, especially those that feel dismissed, exhausted or unheard. I also want to become known as someone who is safe to come to, someone people can trust to share their story with and to see real change over time – not just symptom relief, but becoming more themselves again. Above all, I want to quietly make a difference in my community.
