I don't think it's rude to ask women if they are pregnant. We have an inherent desire to assist pregnant women and ensure they are comfortable. If I see a coworker who looks obviously pregnant I would ask them to confirm so I can be more considerate of their needs. I am pregnant now and I have not been offended any time someone asked me if I am pregnant. It doesn't always work out that way ofcourse. I had hired a house help once and when she arrived I thought she looked pregnant so I asked her if she was. She wasn't. I was embarrassed, as was she. But if she had been pregnant it would've determined what I would have asked her to clean. Saying it's rude to ask if someone is pregnant is implying that being pregnant is something abnormal. As long as we ask with good intentions it's ok to ask.
