Watercolour Drip Easter Pictures | Nanny Anita

Blogger / 1 April, 2026 / Nanny Anita

These watercolour drip Easter pictures are a fun way to introduce little ones to watercolours and colour blending.

Make sure you follow my Easter board on Pinterest for more ideas.  Don’t forget to save the pin for later.

To make your own watercolour drip Easter pictures you will need:

  • Watercolour paper
  • Liquid watercolours
  • Pipette
  • Masking tape
  • Scissors
  • Kitchen towel
  • Paintbrush

I started by drawing an Easter shape onto the watercolour paper.  For older children this is definitely something they can do themselves.

This next step is not necessary, but I found that it created a much better picture compared to the ones that I did at home as an experiment.  I prepared the watercolour paper by submerging it in water for 8 minutes.  Then taped it down to a clean wooden chopping board for it to dry.  I did also tape down the paper to the table when NC was painting.  This helped to not only stop the paper from curling but also prevented her from picking up the paper and spilling all the watercolours everywhere.

When it is time to do the activity, use a paintbrush dipped in water to completely fill in the shape.  Again, if you have older children doing this then they can do this themselves.

I set out the 3 primary colours for NC to use, that way we wouldn’t end up with just a completely muddy picture.  It also gave us a wonderful opportunity to talk about what happened when the colours mixed on the page.  To make the paints I simply mixed some water with a couple of drops of liquid watercolour.

Using a pipette your little one will drip the watercolours onto the paper.  NC was more about squirting the contents into one place.  But the idea of using the pipette helps to develop those fine motor skills and control.

When she had finished with her pictures, I used some kitchen roll to dap up any excess water.  This is because if you don’t you get an odd ring shape from where it has been left to pool before drying.
